K-STEW gets a bad rep

I feel bad for Kristen Stewart!  The girl gets such a bad rep from every one!!  Its just wrong, she didn't do anything to make people hate her other then be paid to make out with a super hot dude in a movie.
People say, "oh she is such a terrible actress" so my response is, "have you ever seen her in another movie other than twilight?"  Usually the response is no, so i say, "well don't judge someone unless you have #1 any experience in acting and #2 a complete viewing of her entire career so far"  But her acting is besides the point, people also hate on her for her style/fashion choices.

I really don't understand why people think she is a terrible dresser, I think the girl has some good style.  She is a laid back cali hipster who likes to wear converse and jeans.  When she dresses in these over the top red carpet gowns you can tell she is not completely comfortable and the only reason she put the stupid thing on is because her team of people made her do it.  I don't really blame her though, I would be uncomfortable too and I love dressing up!

She is also a young girl who is still trying to figure out how to combine her laid back tom-boy style with a more girly dressy version.  It takes time, let the girl evolve please people.  Her street style is on point so leave her alone!  As far as her red carpet look goes, she is getting there but she could use a little help to bring it all together.  She has the general idea but when it comes to completing a look she doesn't excel, this is where a stylist is helpful.  Kristen Stewart clearly does not have one which makes her fashion ability even better then the average Hollywood starlet.  So to complete this rant.... leave the girl alone and let her be a normal teenager please.  She will figure it out but sometimes it takes time and being in the public eye doesn't make is easier.  I think what I enjoy about her the most is the whole fuck you outlook that she has about people's opinions, I also share this when it comes to what people think of my clothing choices.  So in conclusion... if you don't like my style, I don't care and neither does K-Stew!

Vintage Baby Clothes??..... YES PLEASE!

After a visit with my dear friend April and her precious baby girl Lilly, I had baby on the brain!  Lilly is not your average baby girl, this child has more style at 1 month old then most people have in their life time!  Being that Lilly can't really make decisions on her own yet, her mom April is the one to hold responsible.  April being an amazingly talented designer does not have the traditional nursery of baby furniture with duck wall paper or Disney characters plastered all over.  Lilly's nursery has striking vintage rose wallpaper with a black ground to make the hot pink roses pop with a sopisticated girly edge, distressed mirrored dressers and bright colored pop art.  Any adult would be jealous of this baby room!

April and I both share a love for tutu's and she of course has stocked up for Lilly.  Which leads me to the entire point of this post...VINTAGE BABY CLOTHES!!  I thought to myself, "Self, could it be possible to find vintage baby clothes as I find vintage clothes for lil ole' me?"  And behold...etsy is stocked with all the precious vintage baby dresses that you could want!
http://www.etsy.com/category/vintage/clothing/baby

Another option that I am blessed to have is my family's old dresses.  My grandmother has saved her children's baby clothes, some she made and some she purchased.  My cousin's have already plunged into the stash and have dressed their little girls in these old classics.  What is so special and unique about vintage baby clothing compared to modern day? There is 1 main appeal to me, HEMLINES!
If you notice, in present day the dresses made for little girls are longer and take away this doll-like appeal that little girls use to have.  When my aunts/mother/grandmother were still crawling around, they were dressed in tiny little dresses with cute ruffled bloomers underneath to contain their modesty.  They had large sashes tied around and bows in the back with delicate little buttons and decorative lace applied to collars.  How do you picture this and keep away a smile?

So, in conclusion i think that you should all start thinking outside of the box when dressing your little boys and girls and opt for a vintage flare!!!  I know I will once I have little ones chasing each other with He-man swords and locking their siblings in the basement!

Weddings are better with Vintage Flair

Today, while researching shower favors to partake in my maid-of-honor duties for my cousin's wedding I stumbled across these...

These vintage cake toppers are adorable!! I have been to my fair share of weddings in the last few years; it comes with the territory of a large family.  But its nice to see something out of the ordinary at them which is why these cake toppers caught my eye!  I think when planning a wedding people tend to get caught up in the typical ideas that everyone and their mother has, so switch it up.  Adding special personal touches make for a nice change and people remember those corky little details.  At least the people that will really appreciate them do.  You can be sure to see lots of vintage finds when I have my big day in the far off future.

The fabulousness of platforms and knee high socks

As I have written in my first post, my current era obsession is the 70's thanks to the indie rockopic "The Runaways".  Kristen Stewart plays a clone of Joan Jett while Dakota Fanning depicts the hot mess known as Cherie Currie.  As a film the story did not blow my mind, it was jumpy and incomplete as far as story telling goes but costume and cinematography design scored an A++ in my book!!!
Stuck in my head is an amazing shot of Kristen (Joan Jett) in a bathtub, everything is white; the walls, the floor, the water, the tub, her porcelain skin.  All you see of her is her jet black hair, black smudged eye makeup and her holding a cigarette.  Its breath taking, enough to make me develop a girl crush and have my boyfriend asking me to dye my platinum locks jet black.  As much as I could go on about the beauty of this film, this is not the reason for this post.

These are...

I've never been a platform kind of girl, being on the taller side a regular heel was enough for me but I'm starting to have a change of heart!  Even though Cherie Currie may have been a drug addict at 15, she sure knew how to wear some platforms and socks. This trend is a current love of mine because even the amazing Marc Jacobs used a sock & heel combo in his F/W'10 RTW show. (Editors note: Burberry Prorsum S/S'10 RTW also did this which is where I originally fell in love w/ socks and platforms)

I use to think I was born in the wrong era or I lived a life before this one but in the 50's because of my love for 50's fashion.  Now I'm thinking I should have grown up in the 70's like my mom and dad did.  How could they have forgotten to tell me about all the awesome things I missed out on?!?! Maxi dresses, mini skirts, sheer blouses, PLATFORMS, halter tops, plaid, flowers, gold chains, jumpsuits, California surfer everything!!!  And lets not forget the amazing music that came out of the 70's!!!  Too many to even begin listing, but it is safe to say that for the next few weeks I will be on a 70's time warp, what about you all?
Look into your wardrobes and see what you have that can replicate the feminist rocker looks, how can you make it your own?  Will you all be dabbling in the experiment of shoes with knee high socks or am I alone on this one?

Salon Bangles Photo Shoot

Hey kids...
Yesterday I got to spend the evening @ Salon Bangles in Springfield,NJ styling a photo shoot for their website.  I was also one of the acting hair models because I get my hair done there by one of my very best friends Maria.

The owner of the Salon, Kristen wanted to have a more feminine feel to the shoot so we decided to work with a hippie type vibe.  Bohemian style is coming back for the Fall so we interpreted it in a modern updated version.  It went great and we all had an awesome time.

I had the pleasure of working with a great photographer, Melinda DiMauro.
I have been so lucky to know and work with amazingly talented photographers so far and she fits right in with the rest of them.  Check out her work its awesome!

Here is a sneak peak of my hair and make up for the shoot... I will post more about this shoot as soon as the edit work is done on the photos!!!

Intro & Rant

Hello to you all... over the last few months I have been debating about starting a blog. The reason for the debate being that everyone and their mother has a fashion blog but the reason for wanting one is easy. I continually harass anyone that will listen to me about my opinions regarding fashion/style/society. So in order to spare my family/co-workers/boyfriend, I will now try to vent my views on the importance of my career industry for anyone who is interested in reading.

My hope is to be able to update this little blog as much as possible in between my already busy and hectic schedule I call me life. I become obsessive with subjects that I stumble across by reading or seeing a movie or just seeing on the street. My obsessions can be anything from 50's style to the Twilight Series! Not in this post but in a future one you will also learn my new obsession in platform wedges with tights all because of the movie "The Runaways" and smoky black eyeliner because Kristen Stewart looked hot in the movie, but this is all for another day. So to start things off I would like to announce my hatred of sweats being worn in public...

I honestly think this country has become lazy in appearance! What happened to the days of luxury and beauty of presentation? There was a time when a mother had to quickly run to the store for milk and would not leave unless she was fully dressed. Or as soon as a woman woke up in the morning they would be dressed and ready for the day. And we aren't talking a vintage tee with yoga pants and some keds we are talking full make up, hair teased and set into place, corset, panty hose and a great shirt dress with a nice full skirt! Of course the women in the 50's did not only wear skirts and dresses but pants were worn as an easy casual outfit, the difference between then and now is that they knew how to dress down without throwing on a pair of roomie sweatpants. Come on people...put some pride into your appearance!! There is a reason America is the most obese country in the world, LAZINESS!! As much as people don't want to admit this, everyone is judged by their appearance its a proven fact. Even people that are not interested in fashion will still judge a person by their presentation of themselves.

I have mostly targeted women in this post but men are included, why can't you throw on a pair of slakes with your polo shirt, why must it be jeans? We need to pull it together people and go back to what this country was formed on, the American dream and keeping up with the Jones'!
So next time you need to run out to target or your local A&P, look in the mirror and think to yourself, "What do people think when they see me in this outfit?"

The following images below are some guidelines or what casual dressing should look like.
